What's a Soma Cube?

PICTURE It's a 3x3x3 cube that can be built using only some of the pieces of the Dee Cube. Just use the 7 pieces shown in the picture, and you'll be able to make a 3x3x3 cube.

It's easier than the Dee Cube so you might want to start with this puzzle before attempting the 4x4x4 cube.

You can make many other shapes with the Soma Cube pieces. Only a few of them are shown here.

Soma Cube History

The Soma Cube is an assembly puzzle invented in the 1930's by Piet Hein of Denmark. It contains 6 tetracubes and 1 tricube which can be put together in 240 distinct ways to form a 3x3x3 cube with a total of 27 unit cubes.

Piet Hein received patents for the Soma Cube in the UK in 1934 and in Denmark in 1936.
